Where is Ramenhead located?

Ramenhead Izakaya is at 75 Kloof Street, Gardens, Cape Town. Ramenhead also runs a ramen counter at Time Out Market, V&A Waterfront, a more informal take on the izakaya concept.

What are Ramenhead's opening hours?

Lunch is served Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 to 14:30, and on Sunday from 12:00 to 15:30. Dinner is served Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00 to 22:00. The bar is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 to midnight, and Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00. Ramenhead is closed on Mondays. There is no happy hour.

Yes. Book at https://calendar.dineplan.com/k4trYQD8. Walk-ins are welcome, and outside seating is available for walk-ins (weather dependent). Seating is limited to two hours per table.

What kind of ramen do you serve?

Four bowls. Tonkotsu, a rich pork bone broth simmered for 18 hours. Tori Paitan, a lighter creamy chicken broth. Vegetable Sapporo, a sesame miso bowl with smoked shiitake, tofu and bok choy. And Hiyashi Chuka, a chilled soupless bowl. Every noodle is cut in-house on the only Yamato machine in Africa.

Can you accommodate allergies?

We can accommodate most dietary needs with prior notice. However, we cannot accommodate severe, fatal or allium/garlic allergies because our broths and oils contain alliums throughout. Please contact reservations before booking if you have a serious allergy.

What is an izakaya?

Accepted Answer

Izakaya comes from i, to stay, and sakaya, a sake shop. It dates to the Edo period, when sake merchants began letting customers drink on the premises and then started feeding them. Plates arrive from the kitchen as they are ready and the table shares whatever comes.

Do you have sushi?

Yes. The sushi counter is led by chef Ryan Reyes and specialises in oshizushi, the pressed sushi of Osaka. It uses Koshihikari rice from Ishikawa Prefecture cooked in Cape mountain spring water, with sustainably sourced fish from Western Cape small-scale fishers.

Is there a sake bar?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A dedicated sake bar in the courtyard pours twenty-four sakes by the glass and by the flight, from honjozo to junmai daiginjo and sparkling to aged, in flights of three and six glasses, alongside Japanese-inspired and sake-forward cocktails, highballs and sours.

Who runs the Ramenhead kitchen?

The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Julia du Toit, with guidance from FYN Group's Peter Tempelhoff and Ashley Moss. It takes its cue from the ramen shops of Japan, with authentic techniques and carefully-selected ingredients.
